WHAT WE’RE ABOUT

The best way I know to learn tarot is to practice tarot,

using real life, real time situations that are personal to you right now.

Some people use tarot to predict the future.

Although that topic inevitably comes up in every tarot group, that is not our focus here.

Our focus is on connecting to & drawing out our inner knowing, using tarot.

HEAR YOUR HEART TRUTH

Tarot is a portal, entry point, doorway, window, a looking glass, that can gently pull you into your inner knowing, your inner yes, no, & know.

Intuition is a skill we develop and strengthen when we use tarot.

The goal of this group is: to set aside time to learn & practice using tarot to connect to your inner wise voice.

Express your heart truth

Putting your inner knowing (which is often a feeling) into words helps get your brain on board.

Firstly, I encourage you to have a tarot notebook to write down the inner knowing, insight, and inspiration you receive. This creates a trail of cake crumbs back to the sweetness of you.

Secondly, each participant is encouraged to share in the group to the extent that feels right for them.

In this space one of my aims is also to create a space which allows individuals to develop their skill of expressing their true inner selves within a communal context.

Self-expression in community is a skill that is vital to understanding our own gifts, talents, and skills. It can reveal edges we wish to hone and edges we wish to soften.

In this sharing process we also learn from others as we listen to how they interact with and interpret the cards. We begin to tolerate differences and celebrate our shared commonalities. This life skill is essential now and in the future.

Translate Your Heart Truth into an action step

Tarot is not just for fun.

We conclude each session by verbalizing a concrete next action step to be taken. This may be anything from ”focus on the grace in my life” to “spend more time with this topic” to “schedule a dentist appointment”.

The point of intuition is to put it into action. (And, yes, we understand that a way of Being in the world is an action.)

why i created this group

Giving Card Readings at the 3rd Annual Meet the Therapist event.

I love this city. I love this Earth. I love being human. I do.

But I see again and again that so many people feel lost & disconnected. Not only from the pulse of the city’s heartbeat but from their own heartbeat.

Many don’t realize that the two are intimately intertwined.

We live in a world that is experiencing one of the biggest and fastest revolutions humans have ever experienced. Artificial food, photos, intelligence, artificial social contact, artificial everything is spreading.

Tandem to that is the continued spreading of the infection that is the culture of supremacy and control. And with it I see more disconnection, feelings of powerlessness, and debilitating rage taking hold.

Humans as a whole are moving away from being physical, sensory, intimate humans.

I started Basel Tarot Meetup in June 2024 to create a physical space in Basel where people can come together over a shared interest. A space where we can slow down. A space where we can create connections with ourselves, with each other, and with this place on Earth that we call home. A space that nourishes and feeds us so that we are full to overflowing and can contribute to this beautiful place that is home for now.

My first card deck was the Archetypes deck by Caroline Myss. I now have a collection of 50+ oracle and tarot card decks but the psychology of the tarot, the archetypes, is what first drew me in and what continues to be my primary way of entry into the images.

You can browse my Tarot & Oracle Library here.

I began learning tarot in 2014 during a particularly difficult period in my life when I had moved back to Switzerland from Qatar and was navigating a new country in a foreign language while solo parenting my pre-teen and teen daughters and maintaining a long-distance relationship with my husband and establishing my own business. I gotta tell you, the cards landed on my kitchen table like a long lost wise old friend that helped me to slow down and breathe.

Since the early 2000’s I have been gathering groups of people together over common interests. I have a Bachelor’s degree in social work with an emphasis in psychology; am an internationally certified Intuition Coach; and a writer.

I am always looking for ways to bring people in the community together, especially international people who often feel bereft of a space where they can feel like themselves around other people, a place of belonging.

Currently, in addition to the Basel Tarot Meetup, I also host Shut Up & Write Wednesday. I sporadically offer other events based on community need and my capacity. Previous events have included things like: a Pie Fezt—a summer pie potluck, The Gathering—dinner at a local restaurant, Intuition Expeditions—workshops both outdoor and indoor.

In my private practice I offer a limited number of Intuition Mentorships and card readings, both in person in my private studio near the Rhine in Basel, as well as online.

My hope is that you find as much solace, strength, and community through the tarot cards as others before you.
